Starting July 18, 2025, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) approved a ₱50 increase in the daily minimum wage for workers in the National Capital Region (NCR).

The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board – NCR (RTWPB-NCR) granted the wage hike after petitions from various labor groups, including the Unity for Wage Increase Now and several hospital employees’ associations. These groups emphasized that the previous wage levels were insufficient to meet the rising cost of living and inflation, prompting the need for a wage adjustment.

The new wage increase covers the following:

Effects on Businesses

The ₱50 increase in daily wages represents roughly a 7.8% rise from the previous rate. According to DOLE, this also means an increase in wage-related benefits such as 13th-month pay, service incentive leave, and mandatory contributions to SSS, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG.

While this may slightly raise operational costs, businesses can expect long-term advantages, including improved employee satisfaction, productivity, and overall economic growth.

The Benefits of Higher Wages

  1. Motivated and Retained Employees
Competitive wages enhance motivation, reduce turnover, and improve employee performance.

  2. Stronger Business Reputation
Paying fair wages demonstrates ethical business practices and builds trust among employees, customers, and stakeholders.

  3. Boosted Local Economy
Higher wages mean greater spending power for workers, which supports local businesses and contributes to economic stability.

  4. Encourages Innovation and Efficiency
Wage adjustments push businesses to modernize processes, automate operations, and adopt new technologies for long-term sustainability.
